Detailed selection process — what to expect at each stage
01
Step 1 — Online Application
Apply at admission.imi.edu/delhi · application processing fee ₹2,250 (covers one or more 2-year programmes at IMI Delhi / IMI Kolkata / IMI Bhubaneswar) · pay via Credit/Debit Card or Bank Transfer.
02
Step 2 — Shortlisting
IMI Delhi Admissions Committee shortlists candidates based on CAT/XAT/GMAT score + Academic Record. Mere fulfillment of minimum eligibility does NOT guarantee a shortlist call — the committee's decisions are final and IMI does not entertain correspondence on the shortlist.
03
Step 3 — Individual Assessment Process (IAP)
Held tentatively in January/February 2026. Two components: Essay Writing + Personal Interview. Selection criteria: past academic records + performance in essay/PI + quality of work experience + extra-curricular activities. The composition of these components may be modified at the IAP stage — applicants will be informed in advance.
04
Step 4 — Composite Score & Final Selection
Composite score is computed across CAT/XAT/GMAT, Academic Record, Essay, Personal Interview, Work-Ex Quality and Extra-Curriculars. Final results announced through the Admission Portal and notified on the IMI Delhi website. Applicants should keep their email ID valid until 31 July 2026.
05
Step 5 — Withdrawal & Refund (per AICTE rules)
If a candidate withdraws BEFORE programme starts and the seat is filled from waitlist: entire fee refunded minus ₹1,000 processing fee. If a candidate leaves AFTER programme commencement and the seat remains vacant: ONLY the refundable component of fee is returned.

Is IMI Delhi Worth It? — Honest Pros, Cons & Who Should Apply
IMI Delhi is genuinely best for
✓
BFSI / capital-markets careers — the PGDM (B&FS) programme delivered ₹20.90 L avg, ₹40.31 L highest, ₹19.21 L median and ₹30.57 L top-25% in 2023-25 — IMI Delhi's strongest outcomes are in this specialised programme, and 54% of B&FS graduates went into BFSI
✓
Manufacturing / Conglomerate HR roles — 52% of PGDM (HRM) 2023-25 placements went to Manufacturing & Conglomerate firms — strongest non-IIM HR programme for industrial/conglomerate HR tracks
✓
Career-track-driven candidates — the new Major + Minor curriculum (Consulting + Analytics, Finance + Product, Product + Growth, Strategy + People & Org) lets students personalise the MBA more than the typical PGDM
✓
Delhi-region candidates — Qutab Institutional Area is centrally located in South Delhi with easy access to corporate HQs at Connaught Place, Gurugram, Noida
✓
AMBA-UK accreditation seekers — IMI Delhi is among fewer than 20 Indian B-schools with this global MBA accreditation
✓
Cross-IMI applicants — single ₹2,250 application fee lets you apply to IMI Delhi + IMI Kolkata + IMI Bhubaneswar, increasing odds of admission
Watch out for
!
Flagship PGDM avg ₹17.62 L is below top IIMs (₹30-35 L) and ABC-IIM-tier non-IIM schools (MDI Gurgaon ₹25-30 L). ROI is positive against ₹23.54 L fees but the package gap is real
!
B&FS programme (highest performing) has only 63 seats vs 288 in the flagship PGDM — most applicants compete for the lower-yielding flagship
!
HRM programme placements (avg ₹16.32 L, median ₹14.74 L) are the weakest of the three IMI Delhi programmes
!
Hostel is "limited and first-come-first-served" — out-of-Delhi students may need to plan off-campus accommodation in Hauz Khas / Vasant Kunj at ₹15-20k/month shared
!
Company-sponsored candidates pay 65%+ higher tuition (₹34.07 L vs ₹23.54 L) AND are NOT eligible for placement assistance — only useful if employer truly sponsors and you have a return-job
!
Foreign nationals route is GMAT-only and also not eligible for placement assistance — IMI focus is the Indian self-sponsored funnel
!
IMI Delhi is NOT NIRF-ranked among top management institutes in recent cycles · the AMBA accreditation is real but the brand pull is below the top-5 IIMs/XLRI tier
!
People & Organisation career track is unavailable at IMI Delhi — only at IMI Kolkata and Bhubaneswar — a meaningful gap if pure-HR career tracks matter to you
Apply if
You're targeting BFSI / capital markets careers with a B&FS-specialised PGDM, or a Manufacturing/Conglomerate HR track via PGDM (HRM), and you want a Delhi-based AMBA-UK-accredited 2-year residential programme with a flexible career-track curriculum.
Consider alternatives if
You can target top IIMs / XLRI / MDI directly — the brand and average-CTC gap matters. Also skip if you want consulting MBB outcomes (IMI Delhi consulting share is 16-17% with mid-tier consulting recruiters, not MBB).
