What are the admission chances and program details for IIT Delhi DMS MBA for various CAT profiles?
IIT Delhi's Department of Management Studies (DMS) is one of the more nuanced IIT MBA programs to evaluate, primarily because its shortlisting structure differs meaningfully from most other top programs. Here's what we've been able to piece together from alumni conversations and aspirant discussions.
No sectional cutoffs — but the overall bar is high
IIT Delhi DMS does not apply sectional cutoffs. What matters is your overall CAT percentile, but the safe threshold varies considerably depending on your category and academic background.
For General category Engineering Male candidates from non-INI institutions, the indicative safe range sits at 98.5–99%+. We've also seen predictions pointing to 99.8%+ as a more conservative benchmark — so if you're from this profile, treat anything below 99 as genuinely borderline.
For General category candidates from Institutes of National Importance (INIs — IITs, NITs, and select DU colleges such as SRCC), the safe range is similarly pegged at 98.5–99%+, though the INI tag does carry a bonus that is, from what we've tracked, unique to IIT Delhi among the IITs.
Reserved categories tell a different story. OBC, SC, and EWS candidates face substantially lower effective cutoffs. SC candidates have reportedly cleared at the 85–90 percentile range. For OBC candidates with 2–3 years of work experience, admission has been reported even around the 93–94 percentile range — which underscores how meaningfully work experience recalibrates your profile here.
A note on year-to-year variability
Last year's cutoffs came in lower than most prediction tools had forecast, which suggests that platforms using algorithmic predictions may be overestimating the actual requirement. We'd recommend treating third-party percentile predictors as directional, not definitive — and always cross-referencing against the official IIT Delhi DMS cutoff sheets before drawing conclusions.
Core MBA vs. Telecom MBA
Both programs share broadly similar admission criteria. The Telecom MBA marginally favors slightly lower scores, but the difference isn't dramatic enough to significantly alter your strategy.
Placements: honest picture
Median salary is approximately 22 LPA. There is some inflation built into reported figures — in the range of 2–3% — which is worth factoring in when comparing across programs. Finance roles in PE/VC are rare, typically 1–2 per batch, though finance companies do recruit regularly. Marketing placements are limited. Operations, digital transformation, and finance are the domains the program covers most evenly.
Hostel and accommodation
Female students, PWD candidates, and foreign students receive guaranteed hostel accommodation. Male students enter a lottery system from Semester 2 onward, with no guarantee of on-campus housing. Nearby PG accommodations are available in the 7,000–12,000 per month range.
Beyond the CAT score
Even for borderline profiles, the interview stage and extracurriculars carry real weight in the final conversion decision. We've seen this consistently across student conversations — a strong interview can meaningfully offset a score that sits at the lower edge of the safe range for your profile.
If you're evaluating IIT Delhi DMS seriously, our advice is to check the official cutoff data annually, be honest about which profile bucket you fall into, and don't let a single predictive tool make the decision for you.
