JAP PI calls announced - cutoffs, dates, locations, and candidate reactions

JAP (JBIMS, ATIRA, Prin L Patil) has released its Personal Interview calls, and there's a lot to unpack — from cutoffs and logistics to the very human experience of near-misses and scheduling chaos.

The general category cutoff is sitting at 96.25 percentile, with meaningful differentiation for diversity categories. One pattern worth noting: JAP sent out interview invitations in batches, which explains why some candidates who cleared the PI cutoff hadn't received their mailers right away. If you're in that position, the absence of an email on day one doesn't necessarily mean a rejection.

Interview dates are spread across multiple cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Ranchi — with most PIs clustered within a two-week window in February. Venue allocation has been a genuine pain point. We've seen this from multiple candidate accounts: someone from NCR was assigned a Ranchi centre, compounding the frustration with a Friday scheduling slot. Separately, a candidate managing overlapping IIM interview dates — with one centre in Shillong — requested an early slot specifically to accommodate the clash. These are solvable problems, but they require proactive communication with the admissions office rather than waiting it out.

On the borderline cutoff front, the stories are genuinely painful to read. One candidate missed by 0.30 marks. Another by 0.01 marks for IIM B PGP. A third scored 96.20 percentile — just 0.05 short of the JAP threshold — despite a strong profile: 9/9/8 academics and 22 months of work experience. That same candidate received calls from LKIMSR and MDI, which speaks to the profile quality, but the JAP miss stings. Several of these candidates verified their margins through RTI filings and Vercel predictions, so these aren't rough estimates — the numbers are precise. It's a reminder of how unforgiving percentile-based cutoffs can be at this level.

Interview preparation timelines are, by our read, more scattered than they probably should be at this stage. We've heard from candidates who hadn't started prep yet and assumed interviews were in March, and at least one person managing a MICAT exam on the same day as their JAP interview, hoping venue alignments in Bangalore would make it logistically possible. On documentation, at least one candidate received a discrepancy notice related to relieving letters and remained unsure about whether it affected PI eligibility. In our experience, documentation discrepancies of this kind rarely lead to outright rejections — but the right move is to contact the admissions office directly and proactively rather than leaving it unresolved.

The picture that emerges overall is one of high-stakes logistical coordination layered on top of the usual admission anxiety. The margins are thin, the scheduling is compressed, and the support candidates extend to each other — sharing interview dates, venues, and resources — reflects how much is riding on these next few weeks.
