Is LIBA Chennai a good MBA college for placements and curriculum? Honest review and comparison with other B-schools

2-5 yrsmixedplacements and salary expectationscollege comparison and rankingseat-blocking fees and refund policies

LIBA Chennai holds up well as a solid mid-tier B-school, and from what we've tracked across student conversations, the picture that emerges is fairly consistent: it's a reliable institution with a strong Jesuit reputation, reasonably controlled batch sizes, and placements that have historically delivered in the 10–12 LPA range — particularly for marketing and finance roles. The Chennai location adds a meaningful advantage if your target companies have significant South India operations, and the alumni network in those two domains tends to be genuinely active rather than just nominally present.

For someone with a profile like 24 months of marketing experience, an NMAT score of 224, and an XAT percentile of 78 — LIBA's placement expectations and your profile are a reasonable fit. We've seen this pattern hold across similar profiles: mid-tier scores, solid work experience, and a clear marketing orientation tend to find LIBA's ecosystem workable.

That said, experienced professionals we've heard from are fairly direct about one thing: LIBA should be treated as a strong safety net, not a target school. The consistent advice is to wait for results from GLIM and TAPMI before making any final commitment, as both represent meaningful upgrades in terms of career trajectory and ROI — even where fee structures are broadly similar. KJ Somaiya is another name that comes up in the same breath as a comparable or stronger alternative worth evaluating first.

One area where we'd urge particular caution is the seat-blocking fee structure. The blocking fee at LIBA sits at 9.8 lakhs, and there is a genuine lack of clarity around refund policy. We've seen two contradictory positions surface from students who've gone through this process: one view holds that fees are refundable under UGC norms, while another candidate reported receiving an undertaking form explicitly stating fees would be "fully forfeited" upon withdrawal. A counter-position also exists — that no institute under AICTE can legally withhold the full amount. This discrepancy is real, not theoretical. Our strong advice is to verify the exact refund terms directly with the institution in writing before making any payment, rather than relying on either assumption.

The strategic approach we've seen work for aspirants in this situation is to block the LIBA seat while continuing to pursue better options, and switch if a stronger convert comes through. That's a reasonable hedge — but only if the financial risk of the blocking fee is something you've accounted for clearly, given the ambiguity above.

Bottom line: if 10–12 LPA placements align with your expectations, you have a genuine interest in marketing, and South India is your preferred geography, LIBA is a dependable choice. But in our experience, aspirants with your profile have often had the headroom to convert TAPMI or GLIM, and those outcomes tend to open slightly different doors over a 5–7 year horizon. Exhaust those options before treating LIBA as final.
