What is MDI Gurgaon like? Ask a student about placements, academics, and conversion chances
MDI Gurgaon consistently ranks among the more discussed programs in our student conversations, and the picture that emerges across multiple perspectives is a nuanced one — strong placements, demanding academics, and an interview process where your percentile is only part of the story.
On Placements
The placement outcomes at MDI Gurgaon hold up well across finance, consulting, and product management. On the finance side, firms like Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, BlackRock, and American Express actively recruit from campus. The median package sits at 26 LPA, with highs reaching 40 LPA. Consulting (Accenture, PwC, Deloitte, ABG) and tech (Microsoft, Amazon, Optum, PhonePe) are also well-represented in the recruiter mix. Summer internship (SIP) stipends average around 2.5 LPA for 2 months — a useful benchmark when comparing programs at this level. The most recent batch saw 100+ pre-placement offers (PPOs), and from what we've tracked, 100% placement is achievable for candidates who show up to interviews well-prepared.
On Interview Conversion Chances
This is where MDI's process deserves careful attention, and we've seen this perspective reinforced consistently by those who've been through it: CAT percentile alone does not guarantee admission. For GEM (General, Engineering, Male) candidates who are freshers with academic profiles in the 9/8/7 or 9/8/8 range, the realistic target percentile is 97–98 minimum. But conversion ultimately hinges on the Personal Interview.
Engineers in particular are strongly advised to revisit their undergraduate subjects thoroughly — this comes up more than almost any other piece of advice in our experience. Beyond technical grounding, staying current on affairs matters: topics like DeepSeek, Trump-era policy shifts, and Mahakumbh have been cited as the kinds of conversations that actually come up in MDI PIs. For candidates with lower academics but meaningful work experience, the PI becomes even more central — expect work-ex-related questions to carry significant weight, and prepare accordingly.
On Campus Life and Peer Quality
Campus life is described as hectic but manageable, with genuine peer learning and strong networking built into the rhythm of the program. The student crowd is considered above average, and the coursework, while intense, is viewed as delivering real learning value rather than busywork.
On Where MDI Sits in the Pecking Order
The consensus that tends to emerge when aspirants map out B-school tiers places MDI roughly on par with IIFT, a step below IIM Kozhikode and SP Jain, and clearly above IIM Shillong and the newer IIMs. These comparisons shift depending on specialisation and career goals, of course — for finance-focused candidates in particular, MDI's recruiter network makes it highly competitive at its tier.
