Is SOIL Gurgaon's 1-year MBA worth it? Placement outcomes, ROI, and honest experience review

2-5 yrsmixedplacementsROI analysis1-year MBA programs

A SOIL Institute of Management PGPM graduate with 3 years of IT experience at Infosys secured a Senior Analyst role at Accenture at approximately 15 LPA — and that firsthand account gives us a useful starting point for evaluating what this program actually delivers.

Average placements at SOIL tend to hover around 11–12 LPA, based on what we've tracked across alumni conversations. Recruiters include Cognizant, Infosys, Infoedge, PolicyBazaar, and Oxane Partners. One consistent theme from SOIL alumni: outcomes vary significantly based on individual initiative. Mock interviews, networking, and proactive company outreach matter substantially — perhaps more so here than at more brand-driven institutions.

That said, we'd be doing you a disservice if we stopped there. The placement picture that emerges from broader student discussions is more complicated. Approximately 40–50% of the PGPM batch remained unplaced even at convocation (April 2026) in some cycles, and in certain batches, only 30 out of 100 students secured placements. These aren't outlier data points — they reflect a structural challenge worth taking seriously.

The 2-year PGDM program appears to fare better on placements, with companies like Aditya Birla specifically recruiting from that track. If you're choosing between the two at SOIL, this distinction matters.

On specializations, HR stands out as the relatively more viable track — though even that comes with caveats. Marketing and finance specializations have seen minimal placement success, from what we've seen across student conversations. If you're targeting either of those domains, SOIL carries meaningful risk.

The academic experience itself is described as manageable for working professionals returning to studies, with faculty noted as approachable. Program rigor doesn't appear to be a barrier — but that's worth contextualizing: a less demanding environment can also mean less career transformation.

On ROI, there are two honest concerns we've seen raised consistently. First, the long-term salary trajectory: MBA graduates starting at 10–11 LPA take many years to reach the 50+ LPA range, compared to software engineers who pivot into product roles. Second, the opportunity cost question is real — for someone already earning in the range of 1.78 lakh per month, the financial calculus needs careful thought before committing.

The picture that emerges overall is divided, and we think that's the accurate read. SOIL may offer genuine value for working professionals with 2–3 years of experience, particularly those targeting tech-adjacent roles. Fresher candidates and those pursuing HR specialization face significantly more placement uncertainty. And for anyone with MBB aspirations — McKinsey, BCG, Bain — experienced professionals in our network consistently flag this as an extremely unlikely outcome from SOIL.

Weigh those specifics carefully against your current compensation, your target role, and your risk tolerance before deciding.
