IIM Bangalore, IIM Ahmedabad, and ISB run dedicated PM cohorts and see annual recruitment drives from Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Flipkart, and Meta. The volume difference is not marginal.

It is structural, driven by alumni density in product roles and dedicated tech placement cells that XLRI simply doesn't have.

Where XLRI Does Add Real Value

XLRI's brand travels well in product-adjacent roles: growth strategy, business operations, and product marketing at mid-sized tech firms and funded startups. The alumni network in Bengaluru and Gurugram is active and willing to refer, but you have to initiate those conversations yourself.

The placement committee won't hand you a PM shortlist. You build your own pipeline through cold outreach, alumni referrals, and external PM fellowship programs like those run by Flipkart or Meesho.

If you're willing to enter via a business analyst or associate PM track at a firm like Zomato, PhonePe, or Swiggy, XLRI's profile holds up reasonably well. The pivot from BA to PM typically takes 12-18 months post-joining, and several XLRI alumni have made this move successfully.

When XLRI Still Makes Sense for You

This is a legitimate choice if tech PM is one goal among several, and you're equally open to consulting at McKinsey or BCG, or brand roles at HUL.

XLRI's core placement quality is strong, and the ₹32.7 LPA average reflects real outcomes across its dominant verticals. The mistake is treating XLRI as a tech PM feeder school. It isn't, and pretending otherwise wastes your two years. Go in with a portfolio plan, not a single-track bet.
