TL;DR · Quick Summary2 min read

IIM Rohtak placed PGP Class 2024-26 at ₹20.03 LPA average, the highest among the four baby IIMs in this cohort (vs Kashipur ₹14.95 L, Bodh Gaya ₹13.10 L, Ranchi ₹19.26 L). Median ₹18.00 LPA, highest ₹37.10 LPA domestic. The defining edge: CAT 97 percentile cut-off (hardest bar among baby IIMs), AMBA + QS 151+ global credentials, and NCR proximity (~70 km from Delhi). The structural weakness: institute-self-reported placements (no external audit), ₹19.50 L true all-in cost, and no refund post-registration.

  • Best for CAT 97+ percentile candidates targeting Consulting (28% of batch, Avg ₹21.35 L) or Finance (23%, Avg ₹21.36 L)
  • 213 recruiters, 130+ new, 40+ PPOs, 6.9% YoY avg growth, 100% placements maintained
  • AMBA Accredited 2022 (top 2% globally) + QS World 151+ PGM 2024 (first attempt)
  • Skip if you have CAT 95–96 percentile (JAP IIMs will accept you) or need external audit confidence
  • Check your fit against IIM Rohtak's 97-percentile bar in 60 seconds

The number that tells the real story

IIM Rohtak's PGP Class 2024-26 received 40+ Pre-Placement Offers before the formal placement season even opened. In a batch of 303 students, that is a 13.2% pre-commitment rate from recruiters who have tested the school's talent pipeline deeply enough to skip the interview circus.

PwC, Alvarez & Marsal, IBM, GEP, EY, Genpact for consulting. BlackRock, Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo, HSBC, Barclays, NatWest for finance. These are not courtesy campus visits. They are structured multi-year hiring relationships built on Chennai and NCR office operations that depend on IIM-grade talent at non-ABC prices.

That PPO number sits inside a larger picture: ₹20.03 LPA average (6.9% YoY growth), ₹18.00 LPA median, ₹37.10 LPA highest domestic, ₹33.01 LPA top 10%, ₹28.07 LPA top 25%. Among the four newest baby IIMs covered in this cohort (Bodh Gaya, Kashipur, Ranchi, Rohtak), IIM Rohtak leads on every single placement metric except Ranchi's highest CTC.

The trade-off for that outcome: a CAT 97 percentile minimum cut-off (vs 95 at Kashipur/Ranchi/Bodh Gaya and 95 across JAP 2026 IIMs), ₹19.50 L true all-in cost (vs ₹19 L at Bodh Gaya, ₹20.80 L at Kashipur), and no external audit of placement numbers (unlike Bodh Gaya, Kashipur, Ranchi, Amritsar which all engage independent auditors).

This is the lens to read the rest through. Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (IIM Rohtak), established 2009 as the 8th IIM, NIRF rank not published, AMBA Accredited 2022 (top 2% of business schools globally), QS World 151+ Global PGM 2024 (achieved on very first attempt), is positioning itself one tier above the JAP cohort on entry bar and outcomes, while operating with the same self-reported placement transparency model that the other baby IIMs are abandoning.

For the full college dossier (faculty composition, every fee line-item, campus infrastructure specs), the IIM Rohtak college page has the structured view.

The verdict, up front

If your CAT score is 97+ percentile (the actual hard bar, not the aspirational one), your target sector is Consulting or Finance, and you are weighing IIM Rohtak against JAP 2026 partners (Kashipur, Raipur, Ranchi, Trichy) or peer baby IIMs, this is the strongest placement outcome you will find in this tier.

The PGP at ₹17.90 L tuition + ₹1.60 L mandatory extras = ₹19.50 L all-in delivers a ₹20.03 L average outcome with 100% placements maintained and the most international credentials (AMBA + QS) of any baby IIM. For top-decile CAT performers, the ROI math is clean.

The weaknesses are structural, not cosmetic: no external audit of placements (institute-self-reported per Director's message), no fee refund post-registration (high commitment risk), lowest female enrolment among the four baby IIMs (30% vs Kashipur 43%, Ranchi 42.93%), and only Consulting + Finance sectors enumerated in detail (Marketing, Operations, Analytics, GM, HR breakdowns not published).

If you have CAT 95–96 percentile, the JAP IIMs (95 percentile bar at Kashipur/Raipur/Ranchi/Trichy) or IIM Bodh Gaya (95 bar) are structurally better bets because Rohtak's 97 bar may not reach you. If you need external audit confidence or full sector transparency, IIM Bodh Gaya (B2K Analytics audited), IIM Kashipur (Infomerics audited), or IIM Ranchi (BC Dutta audited) each publish independently-verified numbers.

Placements 2025: the cluster, not the slogan

Quick answers

The summary numbers from the PGP Class 2024-26 Final Placement Report (Director Prof. Dheeraj Sharma, Placement Co-Chairs Dr. Neeraj Singh and Dr. Rubina Chakma):

MetricPGP Class 2024-26
Average CTC₹20.03 LPA
Median CTC₹18.00 LPA
Highest CTC₹37.10 LPA (domestic)
Top 10% Avg₹33.01 LPA
Top 25% Avg₹28.07 LPA
Top 50% Avg₹24.31 LPA
Batch Size303 students
PPOs40+
Total Recruiters213 (130+ new)
Placement Rate100% (Director's message)

The averages tell the shape. The cluster mix determines whether IIM Rohtak is the right school for a specific candidate. For salary benchmarks against peer schools, our MBA salary breakdown covers the same numbers in context.

Consulting: 28% of batch, the defining strength

Consulting placed 28% of PGP Class 2024-26, with Avg ₹21.35 LPA and Highest ₹33.00 LPA. The core recruiters: PwC, Alvarez & Marsal, IBM, GEP, EY, Genpact.

This is not a single homogeneous bucket. Alvarez & Marsal is restructuring and performance improvement consulting (real strategy work, equity sponsor clients). IBM is tech and analytics consulting (AI implementations, digital transformation). Genpact is process consulting and BPO (shared services optimization, F&A analytics). The work, client exposure, and exit options vary materially.

A PGP student who landed at Alvarez & Marsal is doing different work than one who landed at Genpact Consulting. Prospective applicants should understand this rather than treat "consulting 28%" as a single outcome tier. (Our best MBA for consulting post goes deeper into which schools place where.)

The ₹21.35 LPA average for the consulting cluster sits materially above the all-batch average of ₹20.03 L, which means this domain is pulling the median up. For candidates targeting consulting specifically, IIM Rohtak is delivering outcomes at the upper end of the baby-IIM range.

Finance / BFSI: 23% of batch, the second pillar

Finance placed 23% of PGP Class 2024-26, with Avg ₹21.36 LPA and Highest ₹28.12 LPA. The marquee BFSI names: BlackRock (new), Morgan Stanley (new), Wells Fargo, HSBC, Barclays, NatWest, SBI Capital Markets, Kotak Securities (new), Aditya Birla Capital, ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank, Indus Valley Partners.

BlackRock and Morgan Stanley as *new* recruiters in 2024-26 is the signal to read here. These are not walk-in campus drives. They are structured multi-year hiring relationships initiated by NCR office operations that need quantitative finance and risk analytics talent at scale. IIM Rohtak's NCR proximity (~70 km from Delhi via NH-9/NH-10) is a geographic structural advantage that Bodh Gaya (Bihar), Kashipur (Uttarakhand), and Ranchi (Jharkhand) cannot replicate.

The ₹21.36 LPA average for Finance exactly matches the Consulting average of ₹21.35 L. This is unusual and worth noting. At most schools, consulting averages sit 10–15% above finance because the top-tier strategy firms (Bain, BCG, McKinsey) pull the consulting mean up. IIM Rohtak's finance cluster is performing at par with consulting, which suggests the BlackRock/Morgan Stanley/Wells Fargo tier is materially stronger here than at peer baby IIMs.

The honest missing piece: only two sectors enumerated

The placement report publishes full stats (% of batch, Avg, Highest, recruiter names) only for Consulting and Finance. Marketing, Operations, Analytics, General Management, and HR are mentioned as focus areas in the Batch Profile (Marketing & Strategy 54%, Finance 25%, Operations 10%, IT Analytics & Consulting 6%, GM & HR 5%) but no placement outcomes are published for those clusters.

That omission is material. At a school where 54% of the batch lists Marketing & Strategy as focus area, the absence of a Marketing placements page (recruiter names, average CTC, % of batch placed) is a transparency gap. Students targeting FMCG, consumer marketing, or brand management roles need to independently verify recruiter frequency and role calibre before committing.

Compare this to IIM Bodh Gaya, which publishes full sector breakdowns (Consulting 10%, BFSI 12%, Marketing & Sales 48%, IT 20%, Others 10%) with independently-audited placement numbers. Or IIM Ranchi, which enumerates 15 sector clusters with recruiter names and CTC ranges for each.

The long tail is real but not enumerated

The ₹20.03 L average and ₹18.00 L median tell you about the top and the middle. The ₹24.31 L top-50 percentile tells you the upper half is doing materially better than the median. What they do not tell you is where the bottom quartile lands.

At schools with full transparency (externally audited reports), the bottom quartile typically lands ₹12 to ₹15 LPA in IT services and BPO roles. At IIM Rohtak, that quartile is not enumerated. The absence of a minimum CTC, quartile ranges, or sector-wise CTC distribution means prospective students cannot model downside risk with the same precision they can at peer baby IIMs.

For candidates entering with clear sector targeting in Consulting or Finance (the two enumerated clusters), this gap is less material. For candidates entering without sector clarity, the risk is higher.

Fees, scholarships, and the ROI math

PGP Batch 17 (Session 2026-28), official fee structure

ComponentAmount (₹ Lakh)Note
Tuition (Year 1)8.95PGP I (Terms I + II + III)
Tuition (Year 2)8.95PGP II (Terms IV + V + VI)
Total Tuition17.90Published headline figure

Development Charge (2 years)0.20₹10,000/year
Alumni Membership0.065One-time
Caution Money0.10Refundable on completion
True All-In Cost₹19.50 LExcluding refundable caution

The ₹17.90 L headline tuition is the number most prospective students see. The ₹19.50 L true all-in cost is what you actually pay over two years (excluding the refundable ₹10K caution deposit).

Scholarships: standard IIM schemes referenced but not detailed

The fee PDF and admission policy reference "standard IIM need-based + merit-based schemes" but do not enumerate specific scholarship names, amounts, eligibility criteria, or application processes. The FAQ_Admission_2026-28.pdf (not extracted in this pass) is cited as the source for details.

This is a transparency gap. Compare to IIM Bodh Gaya, which publishes six named scholarships with amounts (₹1.5 L merit-cum-means, ₹75K EWS, ₹2.5 L SC/ST interest subsidy) and eligibility in the fee PDF. Or GLIM Chennai, which lists ₹5 L Diversity & Merit Scholarship and ₹11.5 L Balachandran full-tuition waiver with allocation percentages.

Prospective applicants should email pgpadmission@iimrohtak.ac.in for the full scholarship list before assuming availability.

ROI math: clean for the median, very strong for the top quartile

PGP Class 2024-26 Median ₹18.00 LPA against ₹19.50 L all-in cost = 13-month gross payback for the typical placed student. Among the cleanest ROI profiles in the baby-IIM tier.

Top 25% Avg ₹28.07 LPA against ₹19.50 L all-in = 8.3-month payback for the top quartile. For candidates entering with CAT 97+ percentile and strong academics (the actual admitted profile), the probability of landing in this top quartile is materially higher than at lower-bar schools. The investment thesis here is very strong.

Top 10% Avg ₹33.01 LPA against ₹19.50 L all-in = 7.1-month payback. The BlackRock, Morgan Stanley, Alvarez & Marsal tier is delivering outcomes that justify the investment on month one of employment.

The missing piece: bottom quartile payback. Without a published minimum CTC or quartile breakdown, candidates cannot model the downside case. If the bottom quartile lands at ₹12 to ₹14 LPA (typical for baby IIMs), the payback extends to 20+ months and the investment thesis weakens materially.

IIM Rohtak vs peer baby IIMs on fees

SchoolTuitionAll-In (excl. refundable)Avg CTCMedian CTCExternal Audit
IIM Rohtak₹17.90 L₹19.50 L₹20.03 L₹18.00 LNO
IIM Bodh Gaya₹17.96 L~₹19.00 L₹13.10 L₹12.00 LYES (B2K Analytics)
IIM Kashipur₹18.00 L₹20.80 L (excl. mess)₹14.95 L₹14.00 LYES (Infomerics)
IIM Ranchi MBA₹16.00 L~₹19.00 L₹19.26 L₹17.75 LYES (BC Dutta & Co)

IIM Rohtak's ₹19.50 L all-in is the second cheapest among the four (after Bodh Gaya ~₹19 L and Ranchi ~₹19 L, ahead of Kashipur ₹20.80 L). The ₹20.03 L average outcome is the highest in this cohort. On pure ROI math (cost ÷ outcome), IIM Rohtak is the strongest bet if you trust institute-self-reported numbers.

The trade-off: Bodh Gaya, Kashipur, and Ranchi all publish externally-audited placement reports (independent verification by B2K Analytics, Infomerics, BC Dutta & Co). IIM Rohtak does not. For candidates who weigh audit confidence heavily, the ₹19.50 L vs ₹19 L cost differential may be immaterial compared to the transparency gap.

Admissions: the bar, the process, and what actually gets you in

The cutoff reality: CAT 97 percentile is a hard bar

The published GEN category minimum CAT cut-off is 97 percentile. This is not a target score or an aspirational guideline. It is the floor. If your CAT score is 96.8, you will not receive a shortlist call.

Category-wise cut-offs from the PGP Batch 17 (2026-28) Admission Policy:

CategoryCAT Percentilevs JAP 2026 IIMsvs IIM Bodh Gaya
GEN97JAP: 95Bodh Gaya: 95
EWS93JAP: 93Bodh Gaya: 85
NC-OBC83JAP: 85Bodh Gaya: 78
SC60JAP: 65Bodh Gaya: 50
ST50JAP: 55Bodh Gaya: 40
DAP GEN87Bodh Gaya: 85

The GEN 97 percentile bar is the highest among the four baby IIMs in this cohort (Bodh Gaya 95, Kashipur 95, Ranchi 95) and 2 percentile points above the JAP 2026 common bar (Kashipur, Raipur, Ranchi, Trichy all use 95 percentile GEN).

This is not a small difference. At CAT 2024 taker base of ~3.3 lakh, the gap between 95 percentile (top 16,500 scorers) and 97 percentile (top 9,900 scorers) is ~6,600 candidates who clear the JAP/Bodh Gaya bar but do not clear Rohtak's bar.

For EWS and NC-OBC categories, IIM Rohtak's cut-offs are 8 and 5 percentile points higher respectively than IIM Bodh Gaya. The admission policy is explicit: IIM Rohtak is positioning itself as a more selective baby IIM on entry bar, betting that higher cut-offs will yield stronger batch quality and placement outcomes.

The bet has worked: ₹20.03 L average (highest among baby IIMs in this cohort). The cost: a narrower applicant pool and higher rejection rate for students in the 95–96 percentile band who would otherwise have multiple baby-IIM options.

Accepted exams: CAT only (no XAT, GMAT, NMAT)

IIM Rohtak PGP Batch 17 (2026-28) accepts CAT 2025 only. No XAT. No GMAT. No NMAT.

This is a material constraint for candidates with strong GMAT scores (700+) or XAT 95+ percentile who are targeting multiple schools. Compare to:

If you are sitting for GMAT because you want ISB/global school optionality, IIM Rohtak is not a fallback unless you also sit for CAT and clear 97 percentile.

Shortlisting and final selection: CAT 60%, PI 20%, Diversity 20%

IIM Rohtak's Stage I shortlist is a pure CAT percentile filter. No composite score. If you clear the category cut-off (97 for GEN), you receive a Personal Interview call. If you do not, you are out.

The Stage III Final Selection List (post-PI) uses:

  • CAT Percentile: 60%
  • Personal Interview: 20%
  • Diversity (Academic + Gender): 20%

The 60% CAT weight is among the highest in the baby-IIM tier. Compare to:

  • IIM Ranchi MBA: CAT 65%, Profile 20%, PI 15%
  • IIM Kashipur: Stage 1 composite (CAT 41 of 75 marks + profile components), PI 25 of 100 marks
  • IIM Bodh Gaya: CAT 65%, Profile 20%, PI 15%

IIM Rohtak is signaling: we select primarily on CAT score, secondarily on diversity, minimally on PI performance. For candidates with CAT 97+ and strong academics, this is favorable (the PI is mostly a confirmation exercise). For candidates with CAT 97 but weak academics or generic work experience, the 20% Diversity weight may not be enough to overcome the deficit.

The Diversity 20% split: Academic + Gender (sub-weights not published)

The admission policy states "Diversity (Academic + Gender): 20%" but does not enumerate the sub-split. Is it 10% Academic + 10% Gender? 15% Academic + 5% Gender? Unknown.

For female applicants, this matters. If the Gender sub-weight is 10%, that is a material upside in a 97-percentile CAT pool where female representation is structurally lower. If the Gender sub-weight is 5%, the advantage is modest.

For non-engineering UG streams (Commerce, Arts, Science), the Academic diversity sub-weight matters. PGP Class 2024-26 batch profile shows Commerce 57%, Engineering 17%, Science 15%, Arts & Others 11%. The high Commerce representation (vs typical 10–15% at most IIMs) suggests Academic diversity is weighted toward non-engineering, but the exact formula is not published.

Prospective applicants should email pgpadmission@iimrohtak.ac.in for the exact Diversity sub-split before modeling their candidacy strength.

The 5-stage process: no-nonsense, no refunds

  1. 1Online Registration (Dec 26 – Jan 09 tentatively, ₹3,095 application fee non-refundable)
  2. 2Personal Interview for shortlisted candidates (physical, offline)
  3. 3Final Selection List (CAT 60% + PI 20% + Diversity 20%)
  4. 4Provisional Admission Offer from pgpadmission@iimrohtak.ac.in (any other email is invalid)
  5. 5Reporting (twin-sharing AC hostel allocation, term fee + mess fee deposit online)

The refund policy is unforgiving: withdrawal before online registration date = full refund minus ₹1,000 processing fee. After registration: NO refund of term fees.

This is a high-commitment-risk model. If you accept the IIM Rohtak offer, pay the Term 1 fee (₹3.55 L per fee PDF), and then receive a better offer from an old IIM or change your mind, you lose ₹3.55 L. No moratorium. No partial refund.

Compare to schools with tiered refund policies (50% refund if withdrawn by X date, 25% by Y date). IIM Rohtak does not offer that flexibility. The admission policy is explicit: once you register, the money is committed.

For candidates with multiple offers or waitlist chances at higher-ranked schools, this matters. Accept IIM Rohtak only when you are certain.

The campus: NCR proximity is the defining advantage

Quick answers

The campus sits at Management City, NH-10 Southern Bypass, Sunaria, Rohtak, Haryana (PIN 124010), approximately 70 km from Delhi NCR via NH-9 / NH-10. This is the closest NCR access among the four newest baby IIMs in this cohort:

  • IIM Rohtak: ~70 km from Delhi
  • IIM Bodh Gaya: ~110 km from Patna, ~500 km from Delhi
  • IIM Kashipur: ~270 km from Dehradun, ~250 km from Delhi
  • IIM Ranchi: ~5 km from Ranchi city, ~400 km from Kolkata

For recruiters with NCR operations (BlackRock, Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo, HSBC, Barclays, PwC, Alvarez & Marsal, IBM), the Rohtak location means campus drives can be scheduled on the same trip as Delhi-based IIMs (FMS, IIM Shillong NCR, IMT Ghaziabad, MDI Gurgaon). For students, the location means weekend access to Delhi for networking, alumni meetups, or pre-placement interviews.

The geographic structural advantage is durable. Bodh Gaya, Kashipur, and Ranchi cannot replicate it.

Infrastructure: twin-sharing AC hostels, fully residential

Twin-sharing AC rooms allocated first-come, first-served separately for male and female. DAP (Differently Abled Persons) candidates receive ground-floor twin-sharing (preferred).

Hostel accommodation is included in the term fees (₹8.95 L Year 1 + ₹8.95 L Year 2). Mess fee is separate: ₹48,000/year (₹96,000 over 2 years) mandatory.

The campus is fully residential by design. PGP is a 6-trimester programme (2 years · 3 terms per year). Year 1 is core courses across Marketing, Finance, Operations, Quant, OB, Strategy, Economics, IT (per Year 1 Courses PDF in source folder). Year 2 is electives + Major/Minor specialisation (per Year 2 Courses PDF).

Faculty composition: 50 full-time + international visiting modules

The "16 Years of Excellence" timeline highlights:

  • 50 full-time faculty (not enumerated by name in placement report)
  • International visiting faculty from Kellogg, Stanford, Harvard, Yale (frequency and module details not published)
  • Case-based pedagogy + rural engagement program + leadership talk series
  • #5 among all IIMs in Research & Professional Practices (2020 recognition by IIMs Research Excellence survey)

The Kellogg/Stanford/Harvard/Yale visiting modules are referenced but not detailed. Compare to GLIM Chennai, which publishes 25 international visiting faculty per year with named professors and course modules. Or ISB Hyderabad, which lists every visiting faculty member by name and university affiliation.

IIM Rohtak's faculty page is sparse in the documents we hold. Prospective students should verify faculty profiles, research output, and teaching awards independently via iimrohtak.ac.in before committing.

Global exposure: AMBA + QS credentials, but exchange partners not enumerated

IIM Rohtak's AMBA Accreditation (2022) and QS World University Rankings 151+ Global (PGM category, 2024, first attempt) are the strongest international credentials among the four baby IIMs in this cohort. AMBA (Association of MBAs, UK) accredits top 2% of business schools globally. QS 151+ on the very first attempt is a credible achievement.

The accreditations signal active international peer benchmarking. But specific exchange partner universities are not enumerated in the placement report or admission policy. Compare to GLIM Chennai, which lists SKEMA France, HHL Leipzig Germany, IÉSEG France, University of Bordeaux, Manchester Metropolitan with embedded immersion and dual-degree pathways.

For students who weigh semester-abroad or dual-degree optionality highly, the absence of a published exchange network is a transparency gap. Verify via pgpadmission@iimrohtak.ac.in before committing.

Batch profile PGP Class 2024-26: 303 students, 30% female, 18.8 months avg work-ex

MetricValue
Batch Size303 students
Dual Degree91 students (30%)
Gender Ratio3:7 (female:male = 30% female)
Avg Work Experience18.8 months
Academic DiversityCommerce 57%, Engineering 17%, Science 15%, Arts & Others 11%
Industry BackgroundMarketing 32%, IT/Analytics 28%, Operations 11%, Consulting 11%, Finance 9%, Others 9%
Focus Areas (self-declared)Marketing & Strategy 54%, Finance 25%, Operations 10%, IT Analytics & Consulting 6%, GM & HR 5%

The 30% female ratio is the lowest among the four baby IIMs in this cohort:

  • IIM Kashipur: 43% female
  • IIM Ranchi MBA: 42.93% female
  • IIM Bodh Gaya: 25% female (lowest overall)
  • IIM Rohtak: 30% female

For female applicants, the 20% Diversity weight (which includes Gender as a sub-component) is a material upside in the admission process. But the low female representation in the admitted batch suggests either (a) the Gender sub-weight is small (< 10%), or (b) female applicant pool at 97 percentile is structurally thin, or (c) both.

The 18.8-month average work experience is the lowest among the four baby IIMs (Kashipur 24 months, Bodh Gaya 21 months, Ranchi MBA 27 months). IIM Rohtak's batch skews fresher (26% with 1–11 months work-ex, 43% with 12–24 months). This is consistent with a CAT 97 percentile bar that favors strong academics and recent graduates.

The alumni network: 15+ cohorts graduated, but "where are they now" list missing

IIM Rohtak has graduated 15+ PGP cohorts since 2009 (Class 2024-26 was PGP Batch 16; Batch 17 starting 2026). IPM 5-year programme (introduced 2018) has been graduating batches since 2023. Estimated alumni count is low thousands (not published).

The placement report does not list named alumni with "where are they now" profiles (Batch + Current Firm + Role). Instead, it lists:

  • Director: Prof. Dheeraj Sharma
  • Placement Co-Chairs: Dr. Neeraj Singh, Dr. Rubina Chakma

Compare to GLIM Chennai, which lists 9 named alumni with verifiable current roles (Ramya Balakrishnan at Meta, Shobha Subramanian at Uber, Ritesh Pal at Morgan Stanley UK). Or SIBM Pune, which publishes 20+ notable alumni with Batch + Current Firm + Role.

For prospective students, the absence of a named alumni list makes it harder to independently verify network strength, industry placement patterns, and long-term career progression. The Director's message confirms 100% placements and 40+ PPOs for Class 2024-26, but no data on 5-year or 10-year post-graduation outcomes.

The Alumni Membership Fee is ₹6,500 one-time (collected in Year 1). This is standard across IIMs. The IIM Rohtak Alumni Network presumably exists (15+ cohorts graduated), but chapter structure (Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, international), founder count, CXO-level density, and marquee corporate roles are not enumerated in the documents we hold.

Prospective applicants should independently verify alumni network strength via LinkedIn (search "IIM Rohtak" + target firm + role) before committing. For schools where alumni network is a decisive factor, the transparency gap at IIM Rohtak is material.

The honest cons

Three weaknesses are worth being explicit about, in order of importance for most applicants.

1. Placement report is institute-self-reported, not externally audited

IIM Rohtak's Final Placement Report PGP Batch 2024-26 is NOT externally audited. The Director's message (Prof. Dheeraj Sharma) and Placement Co-Chairs' messages (Dr. Neeraj Singh, Dr. Rubina Chakma) confirm the numbers, but no independent verification by B2K Analytics, Infomerics, BC Dutta & Co, or any other audit firm.

Compare to:

Among the five newest IIMs (Bodh Gaya, Kashipur, Ranchi, Rohtak, Amritsar), IIM Rohtak is the only one that publishes institute-self-reported placement numbers without external audit.

For candidates who weigh audit confidence heavily (particularly at schools with ₹19.50 L all-in cost and no fee refund post-registration), this is a material gap. The ₹20.03 L average, ₹18.00 L median, ₹37.10 L highest are credible on their face, but without independent verification, prospective students are taking the institute's word.

The counter-argument: IIM Rohtak's AMBA Accreditation (2022) and QS World 151+ (2024) required rigorous documentation and peer review, which suggests institutional credibility. But AMBA audits the programme quality (curriculum, pedagogy, governance), not the placement outcomes.

2. Only two sectors (Consulting, Finance) enumerated in detail, Marketing, Operations, Analytics, GM, HR breakdowns missing

The placement report publishes full stats (% of batch, Avg CTC, Highest CTC, recruiter names) only for Consulting (28%, Avg ₹21.35 L, Highest ₹33 L) and Finance (23%, Avg ₹21.36 L, Highest ₹28.12 L).

The remaining 49% of the batch placed in Marketing & Strategy (54% focus area), Operations (10% focus area), IT Analytics & Consulting (6% focus area), GM & HR (5% focus area) are not broken down with placement stats.

This is a material transparency gap. At a school where 54% of the batch lists Marketing & Strategy as focus area, the absence of a Marketing placements page (e.g., "Marketing & Sales: 30% of batch, Avg ₹15 L, Highest ₹25 L, Recruiters: HUL, ITC, Marico, Amazon, Flipkart") means prospective students cannot independently verify recruiter frequency or role calibre in that domain.

Compare to:

  • IIM Bodh Gaya: publishes 5 sector clusters (Consulting 10%, BFSI 12%, Marketing & Sales 48%, IT 20%, Others 10%) with recruiter names and CTC ranges
  • IIM Ranchi: publishes 15 sector clusters with recruiter names and CTC ranges for each
  • GLIM Chennai: publishes PGPM functional split (Consulting 61%, Product Management 12%, Sales/Marketing/BD 10%, Operations/SCM/Logistics 7%, Analytics 7%, GM 2%, Finance 1%)

For candidates targeting FMCG, consumer marketing, or operations roles, the sector transparency gap at IIM Rohtak is a risk. The school may or may not have strong placement outcomes in those domains. Without published data, you are betting blind.

3. No fee refund post-registration, high commitment risk

IIM Rohtak's refund policy is explicit: withdrawal before online registration date = full refund minus ₹1,000 processing fee. After registration: NO refund of term fees.

If you accept the IIM Rohtak offer, pay the Term 1 fee (₹3.55 L), and then receive a better offer from IIM A/B/C/L, FMS, SPJIMR, or any higher-ranked school, you lose ₹3.55 L. No moratorium. No partial refund. No flexibility.

Compare to schools with tiered refund policies:

  • GLIM Chennai: 50% refund if withdrawn by X date, 25% by Y date (verify via admissions)
  • TAPMI Manipal: similar tiered refund (verify)
  • MDI Gurgaon: tiered refund for waitlist conversions (verify)

For candidates with multiple offers or waitlist chances at higher-ranked schools, IIM Rohtak's no-refund policy is a high-commitment-risk model. Accept only when you are certain.

The practical workaround: delay IIM Rohtak acceptance until all higher-ranked schools have released their waitlist movements. If you are waitlisted at IIM L/K/I, FMS, or SPJIMR, do not accept IIM Rohtak until those schools close their waitlists (typically end-May to mid-June). The ₹3.55 L risk is too high to gamble on a waitlist conversion after committing.

IIM Rohtak vs the real alternatives

vs IIM Bodh Gaya

IIM Bodh Gaya has CAT 95 percentile GEN cut-off (vs Rohtak 97), ₹19 L all-in cost (vs Rohtak ₹19.50 L), ₹13.10 L average CTC (vs Rohtak ₹20.03 L), and externally-audited placements by B2K Analytics (vs Rohtak institute-self-reported).

Choose IIM Rohtak if you have CAT 97+ percentile and want the highest placement outcomes (₹20.03 L avg, ₹18.00 L median, ₹33.01 L top 10%) among baby IIMs. The NCR proximity (~70 km from Delhi) is a geographic structural advantage for BFSI and consulting recruiters.

Choose IIM Bodh Gaya if you have CAT 95–96 percentile (Bodh Gaya will accept you, Rohtak will not), need externally-audited placement confidence, or want full sector transparency (Bodh Gaya publishes 5 sector clusters with recruiter names). The ₹6.90 L cost savings (₹19 L vs Rohtak ₹19.50 L + ₹6 L opportunity cost differential on avg CTC) matters if you are financing via education loan.

For Marketing/Sales focus, IIM Bodh Gaya is the stronger bet: 48% of batch placed in Marketing & Sales (vs Rohtak: Marketing stats not published). For Consulting/Finance focus, IIM Rohtak is the stronger bet: 28% + 23% = 51% in Consulting + Finance with Avg ₹21.35–21.36 L (vs Bodh Gaya Consulting 10%, Finance not separately enumerated).

vs IIM Kashipur

IIM Kashipur has CAT 95 percentile GEN cut-off (vs Rohtak 97), ₹20.80 L all-in cost (vs Rohtak ₹19.50 L), ₹14.95 L average CTC (vs Rohtak ₹20.03 L), and externally-audited placements by Infomerics Valuation (vs Rohtak institute-self-reported).

Choose IIM Rohtak if you have CAT 97+ percentile and want ₹5.08 L higher average CTC (₹20.03 L vs Kashipur ₹14.95 L) and ₹1.30 L lower all-in cost (₹19.50 L vs Kashipur ₹20.80 L excl. mess). The NCR proximity (~70 km vs Kashipur 250 km from Delhi) is a material recruiter access advantage.

Choose IIM Kashipur if you have CAT 95–96 percentile (Kashipur will accept you, Rohtak will not), want externally-audited placement confidence, or target Uttarakhand geographic preference. Kashipur's IPM 5-year programme (introduced 2018) may have stronger placement visibility than Rohtak's IPM (also 2018), verify independently.

For gender diversity, Kashipur is the stronger choice: 43% female batch (vs Rohtak 30%). For Consulting/Finance outcomes, Rohtak is the stronger choice: ₹21.35–21.36 L avg in those domains (vs Kashipur: sector-wise averages not published).

vs IIM Ranchi MBA

IIM Ranchi has CAT 95 percentile GEN cut-off (vs Rohtak 97), ~₹19 L all-in cost (vs Rohtak ₹19.50 L), ₹19.26 L average CTC (vs Rohtak ₹20.03 L), and externally-audited placements by BC Dutta & Co (vs Rohtak institute-self-reported).

Choose IIM Rohtak if you have CAT 97+ percentile and want ₹0.77 L higher average CTC (₹20.03 L vs Ranchi ₹19.26 L) and NCR proximity (~70 km from Delhi vs Ranchi 400 km from Kolkata). The BlackRock, Morgan Stanley, Alvarez & Marsal recruiter set at Rohtak is structurally stronger than Ranchi's recruiter mix.

Choose IIM Ranchi MBA if you have CAT 95–96 percentile (Ranchi will accept you, Rohtak will not), want externally-audited placement confidence, or need full sector transparency (Ranchi publishes 15 sector clusters with recruiter names). The ₹0.50 L cost savings (₹19 L vs Rohtak ₹19.50 L) is modest but real.

For female diversity, Ranchi is the stronger choice: 42.93% female batch (vs Rohtak 30%). For Consulting outcomes, Rohtak is the stronger choice: Consulting 28% of batch, Avg ₹21.35 L, Highest ₹33 L (vs Ranchi: sector-wise stats not separately enumerated).

The honest read: IIM Ranchi MBA and IIM Rohtak are the two strongest baby IIMs on placement outcomes (Ranchi ₹19.26 L, Rohtak ₹20.03 L). Ranchi has external audit + full sector transparency. Rohtak has higher outcomes + NCR proximity + higher CAT bar. Both are defensible choices for CAT 97+ candidates. For CAT 95–96, Ranchi is the only option.

Who should apply

You should seriously consider IIM Rohtak if:

  • Your CAT score is 97+ percentile (the actual hard bar, not the aspirational one) and you are targeting Consulting or Finance roles in NCR or at global GCCs.
  • You want the highest placement outcomes among baby IIMs (₹20.03 L avg, ₹18.00 L median, ₹33.01 L top 10%) and are willing to accept institute-self-reported numbers (no external audit).
  • You value international credentials (AMBA Accredited 2022, QS World 151+ 2024) and want the most globally-benchmarked baby IIM.
  • Your undergraduate background is strong (Commerce 57% in Class 24-26, non-engineering valued in Diversity weight) and you want a school that weights academics heavily (CAT 60%, Diversity 20%, PI 20%).
  • You are a female applicant with CAT 97+. The 20% Diversity weight (which includes Gender as a sub-component) is a material upside, though the 30% female batch ratio signals limited historical conversion.
  • You want NCR proximity (~70 km from Delhi) for recruiter access, alumni networking, and weekend city engagement.

Who should skip

IIM Rohtak is the wrong school if:

  • Your CAT is 95–96 percentile. IIM Rohtak's 97 bar will not reach you while JAP 2026 IIMs (Kashipur, Raipur, Ranchi, Trichy at 95 percentile) and IIM Bodh Gaya (95 percentile) will. Apply to those schools instead.
  • You need external audit confidence. IIM Rohtak is institute-self-reported (vs Bodh Gaya/Kashipur/Ranchi/Amritsar all externally-audited). If audit is non-negotiable for your trust threshold, choose a peer baby IIM with independent verification.
  • You target FMCG, consumer marketing, or brand management roles at HUL/P&G/Marico/ITC. IIM Rohtak publishes no Marketing placement stats (vs Bodh Gaya 48% Marketing & Sales, Kashipur Marketing-heavy batch profile). The sector transparency gap is a red flag.
  • You cannot fully fund ₹19.50 L all-in with no refund post-registration. The high-commitment-risk model (lose ₹3.55 L if you withdraw after paying Term 1 fee) is unforgiving for candidates with multiple offers or waitlist chances at higher-ranked schools.
  • You weigh female representation heavily in batch culture. The 30% female ratio is the lowest among the four baby IIMs (Kashipur 43%, Ranchi 42.93%, Bodh Gaya 25%).

The verdict

IIM Rohtak in 2026 is a 16-year-old baby IIM (established 2009 as the 8th IIM) with the highest CAT bar (97 percentile GEN), the strongest placement outcomes (₹20.03 L avg, ₹18.00 L median, ₹37.10 L highest), and the most international credentials (AMBA + QS 151+) among the four newest baby IIMs in this cohort.

The trade-off for those outcomes: institute-self-reported placements (no external audit), only two sectors enumerated (Consulting + Finance, no Marketing/Operations/Analytics/GM/HR breakdowns), no fee refund post-registration (high commitment risk), and the lowest female batch ratio (30% vs peers at 40%+).

For top-decile CAT performers (97+ percentile) targeting Consulting or Finance roles in NCR or at global GCCs, the PGP at ₹19.50 L all-in with ₹20.03 L average outcome is the strongest ROI in the baby-IIM tier. The 13-month median payback and 8.3-month top-quartile payback are among the cleanest investment theses in the non-IIM ABC market.

For CAT 95–96 percentile candidates, IIM Rohtak is not accessible (97 bar will not reach you). Apply to JAP 2026 IIMs (Kashipur/Raipur/Ranchi/Trichy at 95 percentile) or IIM Bodh Gaya (95 percentile + externally-audited placements) instead.

For candidates who need external audit confidence or full sector transparency, IIM Bodh Gaya (B2K Analytics audited), IIM Kashipur (Infomerics audited), or IIM Ranchi (BC Dutta audited) each publish independently-verified numbers with full sector breakdowns. The ₹0.50 L to ₹1.30 L cost differential is immaterial compared to the transparency gain.

The school's improvement trajectory (AMBA 2022, QS 151+ 2024 on first attempt, 6.9% YoY avg CTC growth, 40+ PPOs up from lower base) is structurally driven by NCR recruiter relationships (BlackRock, Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo, PwC, Alvarez & Marsal) rather than brand power. That geographic structural advantage is durable and hard to replicate by schools 250+ km from Delhi.

The honest positioning: IIM Rohtak is the "ambitious top-decile candidate's baby-IIM choice", premium outcomes at premium entry bar, with the transparency and audit trade-offs that come with institute-self-reported numbers. If you have the CAT score (97+), the sector clarity (Consulting or Finance), and the risk tolerance for self-reported data, the investment thesis is very strong. If any of those three is missing, a peer baby IIM is likely the better fit.
