What is the placement record, program quality, and admission chances at Delhi School of Economics (DSE) MBA?

DSE's MBA programs come in three distinct tracks — MBA-IB (Investment Banking), MBA-HR (Human Resources), and MBA-BA (Business Analytics) — and each has a meaningfully different placement story.

On placements, the picture that emerges is nuanced. Senior batches have achieved 100% placement with multiple offers per student, but from DSE MBA alumni perspectives, consistency isn't uniform across cohorts. One alumni account described their own batch as particularly unlucky, with 7–8 students remaining unplaced even as prior batches fared well. For MBA-HR specifically, the program is widely regarded as strong, with top recruiters including JPMC, Aon Consulting, Reliance, and CK Birla Group attending campus. That said, 100% placement has not been a consistent outcome for MBA-HR historically — the top 50% of the batch tend to secure strong packages, while the lower half faces more uncertainty. The median package for MBA-IB has been cited at 14–15 LPA, with fresher roles ranging from 60K–1.2L per month depending on the fixed-to-variable split.

On admission positioning, we've seen a fairly consistent view from experienced professionals in this space: if you're scoring 97%ile or above on CAT, DSE likely shouldn't be your target. IIMs or IIT-D are the recommended alternatives at that score range. DSE sits squarely in the tier-2 segment, and the advice that emerges is to apply with that context in mind, not against it. For candidates scoring north of 90%ile with decent academics — a 7+ on a 10-point GPA scale — conversion odds are fair, particularly for reserved category applicants. GDPI preparation is flagged as critical at higher percentiles, since the written score alone won't carry you through. CAT is the primary entrance route; MAT eligibility remains unclear from what we've tracked.

On program quality, DSE is described as largely student-run, with strong extracurricular infrastructure and significant opportunities for initiative. That's genuinely valuable for the right candidate. The honest concerns, though, are worth naming: entrepreneurship support is limited, on-campus hostel access for PG students is extremely constrained (only 1–2 reserved seats), and there's an ongoing perception question around DSE's positioning as a department rather than a standalone reputed institution. From DSE MBA alumni perspectives, this hasn't necessarily translated into hiring difficulties in practice — but the perception gap is real and worth factoring into your decision.

In our experience, DSE represents solid value for candidates who haven't secured IIM calls and are particularly interested in HR specialization. The MBA-HR track has genuine recruiter traction. For MBA-IB and MBA-BA, the outcomes are more cohort-dependent, and managing expectations around placement consistency is important going in.
