What is it like to study at Great Lakes Institute of Management (GLIM) Chennai PGDM program? What are placements, campus life, and admission chances?

A current GLIM Chennai PGDM student shared candid, firsthand insights into the program — and the picture that emerges is nuanced enough to be genuinely useful for aspirants weighing this option.

On Placements

Final placement average CTCs sit in the 12–14 LPA range, with the highest package reported at 36 LPA and the floor around 10–11 LPA. Placement rates, however, vary significantly by specialization — and this is worth paying close attention to. Operations leads the pack at approximately 99% placed, followed by Analytics at around 90%, Finance at roughly 80%, and Marketing trailing at 60–70%. From what we've tracked in student conversations, marketing placements at GLIM tend to skew heavily toward sales roles rather than core brand or product marketing positions — aspirants with a strong marketing orientation should factor that in. Finance roles are among the more accessible options, and non-finance background students can and do secure them, though they face stiffer competition than their finance-background peers. Operations and finance are broadly described as the most reliably placed functions from this campus.

One candid note worth flagging: the placement figures shared here come from student-reported data, and some of the numbers were offered with a degree of approximation. We'd recommend independently verifying current placement statistics directly with the institution before making any decisions.

On Admissions

The consensus that emerges from experienced aspirants is that CAT or XAT scores in the 85–90 percentile range, paired with a reasonable academic profile — broadly, something in the 8/7/7 territory across Class 10, Class 12, and graduation — tends to be sufficient to secure an interview call. The conversion, however, depends heavily on interview performance rather than scores alone. Application timing also matters: Round 1 and Round 2 applicants have better chances of securing a Chennai campus seat. By Round 3, the available slots tend to shift toward the Gurgaon campus instead — so if Chennai is specifically your preference, applying early is advisable.

On Campus Life

Academics are described as rigorous and genuinely hectic — the workload is real. Campus life itself is characterised as relatively relaxed in atmosphere, but the physical location introduces practical constraints that we've seen come up consistently in student conversations. The campus sits 60–70 km from Chennai city, with limited surrounding infrastructure. During the first three months of the program, weekend visits home are not easily feasible. Hostel accommodation is AC two-sharing, but food quality is flagged as a recurring pain point — described plainly as "pretty bad these days." The weekend policy allows students to be out until 11 PM without requiring prior permission; returning later requires an outpass. Anyone expecting easy access to city nightlife or frequent weekend downtime should calibrate expectations accordingly.

A few other specifics worth noting: there is no HR specialisation at GLIM — the program is core PGDM only. On the entrepreneurial side, an entrepreneurship club and startup incubation support are available for those interested in that direction.

The Collvera Take

GLIM Chennai is a solid option in the 85–90 percentile CAT range, particularly for aspirants targeting operations or analytics. The placement story is credible but uneven across functions, and the campus location is a genuine lifestyle consideration rather than a minor footnote. Apply in Round 1 or 2 if Chennai is your target, go in with realistic expectations about weekend life, and verify placement numbers directly with the admissions office.
