Is IMT Hyderabad a good MBA choice? Complete student perspective on placements, campus life, and academics
An IMT Hyderabad student from the 2025–27 batch shared an extensive, candid breakdown of life at the institute — and the picture that emerges is nuanced enough to be genuinely useful for anyone weighing this option seriously.
On placements, the median package sits around 10–11 LPA, with a stated floor of 8–9 LPA for placed students. Final placements were still in progress at the time this was shared, so the full picture wasn't available yet. What's clear is that performance across specializations isn't uniform: finance has been the stronger vertical, attracting companies like BNY, CRISIL, Oxane, and Verity — with roles in credit risk, investment research, and valuation. Marketing and operations placements, by contrast, have been comparatively weaker. For summer internships, 230–235 students out of a batch of 280 secured placements, though some of those roles were unpaid. The overall SIP experience was described as good despite that caveat. One structurally interesting feature worth noting: students can sit for placements across multiple specializations regardless of their major or minor selection — a flexibility that not all peer institutes offer at this level.
On campus life, IMT Hyderabad holds up well. All students get single-occupancy hostel rooms, which in our experience is a meaningful differentiator at this fee band. The mess food gets positive marks for variety, the campus spans 30 acres with adequate amenities, and classes are scheduled from 10:30 AM to 5 PM. Inter-college competitions run alongside the usual intra-college events, which adds some external exposure.
On peer comparisons, this is where things get particularly instructive. The perspectives shared were direct and consistent:
- vs. NIRMA: IMT Hyderabad is the stronger call, primarily on ROI and campus experience.
- vs. FORE: If network depth and brand recognition matter more to you than cost, FORE is the recommendation.
- vs. GLIM Gurgaon: Both are broadly on the same level; IMT edges ahead on ROI.
- vs. GLIM Chennai: This is the most interesting comparison. Even with GLIM Chennai's significantly higher fee — approximately 22.5L versus IMT's all-inclusive 16L — and even accounting for IMT's 20% female scholarship, GLIM Chennai was recommended for candidates who can absorb the cost, on the basis of better role quality and overall opportunity set.
The honest framing that comes through is this: IMT Hyderabad is a decent institution, but it is not tier-1, and candidates should go in with calibrated expectations. The institute rewards self-driven learners — those who actively build skills and relationships rather than assuming the brand will do the heavy lifting. Judging any college purely on cutoff scores, as was specifically cautioned, can lead to misaligned decisions in either direction.
For the right candidate profile — someone with financial discipline, a genuine interest in finance or a willingness to hustle across functions, and a preference for a well-maintained residential campus — IMT Hyderabad offers a credible, cost-efficient path into the MBA ecosystem.
