What is XLRI Delhi-NCR like as a PGDM student? Campus life, placements, academics, and comparison with other B-schools

0-2 yrs | 2-5 yrs | mixedpositiveplacements and recruitmentcampus comparisonacademics and curriculum

From what we've tracked across XLRI Delhi-NCR student conversations, the picture that emerges is genuinely encouraging — particularly for aspirants weighing this campus against other top-tier options.

On Placements

A current PGDM BM student at XLRI Delhi-NCR shared that placements are broadly comparable to XLRI Jamshedpur across most sectors. The gap between the two campuses sits at approximately 10% — but notably, the highest package in recent finals actually came from the NCR campus itself. For finance-focused aspirants specifically, Goldman Sachs, JPMC, Barclays, White Oak, and NIIF have all hired from the campus. Importantly, most of these companies show no preference between the Jamshedpur and Delhi-NCR campuses during shortlisting — a detail worth holding onto if you're worried about the newer campus carrying a disadvantage.

That said, this same student was candid about something we think is important to flag: placement outcomes remain unpredictable. Many variables beyond academics influence where you land. For students without strong CVs going in, the process can bring surprises — both positive and negative.

On the Incoming Cohort and Admissions

The average XAT percentile for the Delhi-NCR batch is above the 99th percentile (median), though some admits fall below this threshold through diversity preferences. In our experience, cohort quality is one of the more underrated factors in an MBA — and by this measure, XLRI Delhi-NCR holds up well.

On Peer Comparison

When placed against comparable schools, the picture that emerges is this: XLRI Delhi-NCR sits above IIM Indore and IIM Shillong on cohort quality and placements, though it trails both on campus infrastructure and established facilities. Compared to MDI Gurgaon and IIFT Delhi, XLRI Delhi-NCR's placement floor is significantly higher — though MDI and IIFT offer a location advantage that's real and shouldn't be dismissed.

On Academics and Campus Life

The curriculum leans heavily on case-based learning. Classes typically run 9am to 5:30pm, which leaves room for committee and club work in the evenings. XLRI assigns low weightage to undergraduate academics — one student we've seen this from had a 6 in 12th standard but came with a CFA Level 1 certification and private equity work experience, and was admitted without issue. For aspirants with unconventional academic profiles, this is a meaningful signal.

The two campuses — Jamshedpur and Delhi-NCR — maintain strong integration through shared committees, clubs, and faculty, which helps the newer campus punch above its age in terms of institutional depth.

Hostel accommodations are gender-neutral with ACs and single rooms, though washrooms are shared across common areas. The mess food has received consistent praise. Connectivity to Delhi and Gurgaon takes roughly 1 to 1.5 hours by bus, with weekend shuttles available.

On Culture

The overall culture is still developing relative to Jamshedpur's decades-old traditions — that's a fair and honest read. But student bonding has been described as excellent, and from what we've seen across student conversations, that's not a throwaway observation. For a campus still finding its identity, the community aspect appears to be a genuine strength rather than a work-in-progress.

For aspirants sitting at the 99th+ XAT percentile with a finance or general management focus, XLRI Delhi-NCR deserves serious consideration — not as a consolation for Jamshedpur, but on its own terms.
