IIM Calcutta sits on a 135-acre Joka campus, approximately 25 km southwest of Kolkata city centre on Diamond Harbour Road. But the practical reality is that Joka is geographically isolated from Kolkata's commercial centres, which means:

• campus life is intense and immersive — there is no commuting culture, no "drift back to the city after class," and the academic + social density on campus is genuinely high
• external networking with Kolkata's industry leaders requires planning, not spontaneity
• monsoon flooding around the Joka area is real and occasionally disruptive — the campus has learned to manage it, but it is part of the experience
