Average package, sector breakdown, top recruiters and PPOs
XLRI completed the Final Recruitment Process for its graduating Batch 2024-26 across both Jamshedpur and Delhi-NCR campuses. The headline numbers:
| Metric | Figure |
|---|---|
| Students Placed | 576 |
| Total Offers | 578 (576 domestic + 2 international) |
| Recruiters | 145 |
| Placement Rate | 100% |
| PPO Conversion | 42.5% (highest among Indian B-schools in 2026) |
| Average Package | ₹31.40 LPA |
| Median Package | ₹29 LPA |
| Highest Domestic CTC | ₹59 LPA |
| Highest International CTC | ₹1.10 Cr (₹110 LPA) |
| First-Time Recruiters | 25 (including Eternal, Razorpay, Indigene, IndiGo Airlines, Hilabs, and Sunsure Energy) |
Three signals make the XLRI placement profile distinctive in 2026. First, the 42.5% PPO rate — meaning nearly half the batch was hired through their summer internship without entering final placements. This is one of the highest PPO conversions in Indian management education and reflects the depth of XLRI's industry relationships.
Second, the top-10% average of ₹49.20 LPA and top-25% average of ₹44.18 LPA — the long right tail concentrated in MBB consulting, investment banking, and HR consulting roles. Third, the 76 years of legacy — XLRI has been India's oldest B-school since 1949, three years older than IIM Calcutta and predating the IIM system entirely. Recruiter relationships built over decades are why JP Morgan, BCG, McKinsey, HUL, ITC, and Tata Administrative Services return year after year.
Distribution of offers across domains (official 2026 report):
| Sector | Share |
|---|---|
| Consulting | 36% |
| BFSI | 18% |
| ITES & E-Commerce | 15% |
| Sales & Marketing | 12% |
| General Management / FMCG / others | 19% |
Consulting being the largest cluster is consistent with broader Indian B-school trends, but XLRI's 36% concentration is meaningfully higher than most peer schools — reflecting the institute's consulting-firm relationships through both the BM and HRM cohorts (HR consulting via Aon, Deloitte HR, EY PAS, KPMG People Advisory; strategy consulting via MBB, Accenture Strategy, EY-Parthenon).
The BFSI 18% share is up from prior years and reflects XLRI's strengthening pipeline into Investment Banking and Markets — JP Morgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Avendus, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, and Citi all extended offers in 2026.
Consulting (36% of offers): Accenture Strategy, Accenture Technology Consulting, Accenture TAP, Aon Consulting, Bain & Company, Boston Consulting Group, Deloitte USI, EY-Parthenon, EY PAS, GDI Partners, Infosys Consulting, KPMG, McKinsey & Company, PwC, Samagra Governance, Sutra Consulting, Vector Consulting Group, YCP Auctus.
BFSI (18%): Avendus, Axis Bank, Barclays, Centrum, Citi, DBS, Deutsche Bank, DSP Asset Managers, FinIQ, Goldman Sachs, HDFC Ergo, HSBC, ICICI Bank, IndigoEdge, IndusInd, InsuranceDekho, Ionic Wealth, JP Morgan Chase & Co., Kotak Bank, L&T Finance, Mastercard, Morgan Stanley, NIIF, NPCI, Policy Bazaar.
FMCG/Consumer: AB InBev, Amul, Arvind Fashions, Asian Paints, Colgate Palmolive, Dabur, Diageo, Godrej Consumer Products, Godrej Properties, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Kraft Heinz, Lodha Group, L'Oréal, Marico, Mondelez, Nestle, P&G, Pidilite, Reckitt, Tata Consumer Products.
Tech/ITES/E-Commerce: Accenture Technology, Amazon, American Express, Doubletick, Eternal, FedEx, Flipkart, Genpact, Google, GyanSys, HCL Tech, ITC Infotech, Media.net, Meesho, Microsoft, Nykaa, Ola, Pine Labs, Playsimple, Tata Electronics, Waaree.
XLRI's PGDM-HRM is ranked #1 HR programme in Asia Pacific — a distinction earned over six decades of HR education leadership. The 179-student HRM batch in 2026 had a unique gender profile: 41% male, 59% female — making it one of the few elite Indian MBA programmes with majority female enrolment.
HRM placement sectors mirror BM partially (Consulting & Analytics 30%, Prodman & ITES 26%) but include a distinctive 24% in HR Architecture / Law / Others — pure HR strategy roles unavailable at any peer school. HRM-specific recruiters include Accenture TAP, EY PAS, Aon Consulting (HR Consulting practice), Deloitte HR Consulting, KPMG People Advisory, plus in-house HR Business Partner roles at HUL, ITC, Tata Steel, Mahindra, Reliance, and Vedanta.
For HR specifically, XLRI is unambiguously the top destination in India — IIM A and IIM C cannot match the dedicated HR curriculum, faculty, or recruiter depth.
XLRI's Summer Internship Placement (SIP) for Batch 2025-27 placed 583 students with 584 offers from 114 recruiters, including 28 new firms.
| Metric | Figure |
|---|---|
| Average Stipend | ₹1.60 LPM |
| Median Stipend | ₹1.55 LPM |
| Highest Stipend | ₹3.50 LPM (JP Morgan Chase - BFSI) |
| Top-5% Average | ₹2.49 LPM |
| Top-10% Average | ₹2.40 LPM |
| Top-25% Average | ₹2.23 LPM |
Distribution: 38% of the batch secured stipends above ₹2 LPM, 62% above ₹1.5 LPM, and 81% above ₹1 LPM. The 42.5% PPO conversion in the 2026 final placement is a direct outcome of this strong summer pipeline — when interns perform well, companies extend full-time offers and skip campus interviews entirely.
The headline averages tell only part of the story.
| Institute | Average Package (2026) |
|---|---|
| IIM Ahmedabad | ~₹35 LPA |
| IIM Bangalore | ~₹35-36 LPA |
| IIM Calcutta | ₹36 LPA |
| XLRI | ₹31.40 LPA |
XLRI's ₹31.40 LPA is meaningfully below the ABC IIMs — roughly 10-15% lower. But two factors deserve weight: (1) XLRI's 42.5% PPO rate is materially higher than the IIMs (typically 20-25%), meaning XLRI students are landing offers earlier with higher certainty; (2) XLRI's top-10% average of ₹49.20 LPA and top-25% of ₹44.18 LPA show that the upper quartile is competitive with peer schools — the gap is in the bottom-half of the cohort, not at the top.
Programme-fit framing: HR → XLRI without question; finance/MBB consulting → IIM Calcutta or IIM Ahmedabad have the edge; FMCG ABM → IIM Ahmedabad still leads; PGPM/1-year executive → ISB Hyderabad. For a 92-95 percentile XAT scorer with strong work experience and HR or general consulting interest, XLRI's PGDM is a stronger choice than IIM L/K/I despite the NIRF gap.
XLRI slipped from NIRF rank 9 (held in both 2023 and 2024) to NIRF rank 10 in 2025. IIM Mumbai (formerly NITIE) overtook XLRI by entering the top 10 at rank 6, and IIM Calcutta itself slipped to #7. Like the IIM C slip, this is methodology-driven — NIRF weights research output and faculty productivity heavily, and XLRI's research publication growth has trailed faster-publishing IIM peers.
However: XLRI is ranked #1 by Outlook 2025 and #1 by Outlook-ICARE 2024 for private B-schools, #2 by IIRF 2025, and #4 by BusinessWorld 2024 — the broader ranking ecosystem consistently places XLRI in the top 4-5 institutions. NIRF #10 should not be the single decision input. Recruiter behaviour (145 firms, 42.5% PPO, ₹110 LPA international highs) demonstrates that XLRI sits in the top tier of Indian management education on the metric that actually matters: hiring demand.
