How to read this data

  • Numbers represent total waitlist size for the 2025 admission cycle by category.
  • For new IIMs flagged "1st List + WL Move", the format is: First-list offers (Waitlist clearance).
  • Smaller waitlist = tighter movement. IIM Ahmedabad has just 33 General waitlist — among the tightest of any IIM.
  • Larger waitlist = substantial movement. IIM Indore has 802 General waitlist — needs multiple rounds to clear.
  • Category waitlists move independently. SC/ST/OBC have their own dynamics distinct from General.

Honest insights from the 2025 data

IIM A is by far the tightest. Only 33 General waitlist positions — most IIMs have 100-800. Position 30 on IIM A waitlist is borderline; same position at IIM Indore (802 GE) clears comfortably.

IIM Indore moves substantively. 802 General + 519 OBC waitlist suggests 3-5 rounds of clearance. Most waitlisted candidates below position 200 clear by the final round.

New IIMs show extreme movement. IIM Sirmaur: 920 first-list + 2,760 WL movement = total cohort flow of 3,680+ across categories. IIM Kashipur similar at 2,136 first-list + 1,728 WL.

SC/ST waitlists often outpace General in absolute conversion. Look at IIM Kashipur SC: 489 first-list + 297 WL movement — a meaningful share of SC waitlist clears.

PwD movement is highly variable. IIM Bodh Gaya cleared all eligible PwD candidates; IIM Sirmaur PwD WL movement of 60 was substantial; IIM Rohtak had 0 PwD waitlist.
